• PC:  Microsoft Internet Explorer v6+ (v7 recommended) ,  Firefox v2+ for OPAC users only (v3 recommended)

What's New in this Version?

Each new and enhanced feature is discussed briefly here. The applicable Inmagic Software Feature Request number follows each item listed. For more information on a feature, see the Inmagic Genie Technical Notes. The installation notes PDF includes instructions for implementing these features for customers upgrading from a previous version.

• Serials:
  • Checkin:
    • The Check In Serials search screen no longer populates the Date Expected query box with <@DATE+1 [2168]
    • The "Check in" and "Skip missing issue" actions will use the MovedIssueFormat specified in MyGenie.CONFIG even if there is no volume/issue number. For example, "Check in" will append the date received to the issue date. [3546]

  • Routing:
    • Route Serials: The new Routing Checklist report supports e-mailing routing messages to Borrowers, and removing the Issues To Be Routed entry in the Serial record. The e-mail message text is fully configurable using the EmailSerialsRoute report in Reports.CONFIG [1787]
    • Easier Routing List Maintenance: [4802, 5746]
      
      • The Borrower Full Display page now includes a list of serials routed to that borrower, and a "Manage route lists for borrower" link that takes you to the Serial Search screen with the borrower name filled in. When you submit the query, the results are displayed using the new Routing List Maintenance report with the borrower name in the box at the top of the report. This report permits you to check the boxes for multiple serials and either add or remove the borrower from the routing lists for the selected serials.
      • The Routing List Maintenance report is also available in the report drop-down list after using Serials>Search Serials. The report includes a borrower box next to the report drop-down list with a [?] button that permits you to browse for and paste a single borrower name to add/remove from the serials you select.
    • Reports: Option to include Mail Stop after Borrower name [4217, 5269]
    • Reports: Permit printing more than one routing list from a single Serial record [4971]
    • Serials textbase: SerDateToRoute is no longer a strict date. [6418]

  • Claim Missing Issues:
    • The Serial Search screen now includes a query box for Claim History. [6615]
    • The new Serials Claim report supports e-mailing claim messages to suppliers, and recording that the claim letter was sent in the Serials record. The e-mail message text is fully configurable using the EmailSerialsClaim report in MyReports.CONFIG. [1448, 5219, 6449]

  • Set Up Arrival Pattern:
    • More arrival patterns: daily with no Sundays or weekends, issue numbers with no volume numbers [3504, 4055, 5518]
    • New Save All button to update the arrival pattern in all Serials with the same Title [5761]

  • Edit Serial Record:
    
    • New "Set Up Arrival Pattern" button is included in the Data Entry Toolbar. [3428]
    • "Create item record for new issue" now copies volume and issue to the new Items record. [4973]
    • The Notes box is now multiple lines. Note: Existing clients will need to modify MyEditScreens.CONFIG. [4992]

  • Edit Catalog Record:
    
    • When a Title is changed in a Catalog record, Genie now updates the Title in all corresponding Serials records. [3610]
    • After using Create Serial Record, an Edit Serial Record link appears which will launch the Set Up Serial Arrival Pattern page for the new Serial record. [5522]
    • Ability to specify in MyGenie.CONFIG which fields are copied from Catalog to Serials when using Create Serial Record. [5893]

  • Edit Borrower Record: When Borrower name is changed, Routing List fields in Serials are automatically updated. [5901]

• Orders:
  • New Select/Claim report supports e-mailing claim letters to suppliers, and recording that the claim letter was sent in the Orders record. The e-mail message text is fully configurable using the EmailOrdersClaim report in MyReports.CONFIG. [5219]
  • New Renew/Reorder menu choice to create Order records to renew serials subscriptions or reorder items. [6454]

• Loans: New, configurable E-mail/Print Overdue Notices checkbox report replaces the old Loans Overdue Notices page.

• Search: The Alternate Search Syntax feature can be enabled for search screens. An Alternate Catalog Search screen, which uses this feature, is provided for the OPAC. [5817]

• Edit pages. New ClearOnDuplicate="true" MyEditScreens.CONFIG option permits specified fields to be emptied when using Duplicate. [6326]

• Edit Items. Ability to configure fields and sort order for table at bottom of page. Default sort is ItemID descending. Volume and Issue fields included by default. [4530, 6522]

• Reports. Ability to specify a default CssClass (font face, size, etc.) for a report. See the new DefaultClass= parameter in MyReports.CONFIG. [6577]

• ILL:
  • New Status Check report supports e-mailing status check requests to interlibrary lenders, and recording that the letter was sent in the ILL record. The e-mail message text is fully configurable using the EmailILLClaim report in MyReports.CONFIG. [5219]
  • A new ALA ILL Request print form is available. [5753]

• Set Up E-mail Information now includes the ability to specify the SMTP Username and Password. [1106]

• Genie to Presto Integration. For users who import Genie output into Presto when records are added, saved, or deleted, the XSL files used to transform the data must be updated for use with Genie 3.30. Genie 3.30 has replaced all of the textbase-specific SOAP files (Catalog, Borrower, Loans, and so on), except for those for the GenieKey textbase, with a single set of Textbase SOAP files in the WebPublisher SOAP subfolder. • Section 508-compliance. Boxes now have the <label> element specified. [6607]

Issues Addressed

The following issues are addressed by this version.  The applicable Inmagic Software Problem Report (SPR) number follows each item listed.

• "Print Routing List on Label" no longer truncates long "Date of issue" field contents. [5540] *
• Edit pages: Addressed various issues with Next/Prev buttons. [6432, 6443, 6575]
• For the Content Server version, the backup file sets no longer include extra SQL logins, and the empty textbases have empty validation lists for most fields (e.g., CatSubjects) [2823, 6512]

Note: For users upgrading from a previous version, the items followed by an asterisk (*) require copying a fix from the non-My version of the .CONFIG file to the corresponding MyXXXX.CONFIG file. For more information, see the Inmagic® Genie 3.30 Installation Notes.

Known Issues

This version has the following known issues, which will be addressed in a future service pack or version. The applicable Inmagic Software Problem Report (SPR) number follows each item listed.

• For multilingual sites, WebPublisher PRO error messages returned on Edit and Full Display pages are always in English; they do not use the specified language. [5448]

• InmagicBrowse: Firefox initially shows extended characters in field-name drop-down lists as 2-byte characters; navigating away from the query screen corrects the problem for the rest of the browser session. [5600]

DB/Text WebPublisher Issues

The following issues apply only if you're using DB/TextWorks textbases with Genie.

• If you upgraded WebPublisher PRO 10.0 to 11.0, the .IWX mapping in IIS may be incorrect. The symptom is seeing the following message when you attempt to log in to Genie: "Login verification failure: The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden." To fix the .IWX mapping, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Internet Information Services Manager.
  2. Right-click on the dbtw-wpd virtual directory and choose Properties.
     
  3. On the Virtual Directory tab of the Properties dialog box, click the Configuration button in the bottom group.
  4. Locate and select the .iwx extension in the list.
  5. Click the Edit button.
  6. Select the "All verbs" option button, and check the "Script engine" check box.
  7. Click OK three times.

  Note: The .IWX mapping also appears on other virtual directories, but the only one you need to correct is the one for the dbtw-wpd virtual directory. If you correct the .IWX mapping for the Default Web Site, you may also inadvertently reset the .NET version for the InmagicBrowse and InmagicGenie virtual directories.

• Help: Several topics refer to the Content Server product names (for example, CS/Importer) instead of the DB/Text equivalent. The version information says "3.00"; the features implemented in version 3.10 were to enhance the ability to customize Genie and thus do not affect the out-of-the-box experience.
