DB/TextWorks is a content management system—a type of database software that enables you to build networked and standalone textbases to manage text, numbers, dates, and electronic images. DB/TextWorks combines traditional database power, including the ability to manipulate data and perform arithmetic calculations, with the ability to handle large amounts of text. When you want to publish your textbase(s) over the Web, you need to use DB/Text WebPublisher PRO.
DB/TextWorks also provides you with access to Inmagic.net™, which gives you the ability to connect to the Inmagic server from within a DB/TextWorks session to accomplish various tasks related to cataloging, indexing, and disseminating information throughout an organization.
Each new and enhanced feature is discussed briefly here. For more information on a feature, see the online help, unless otherwise noted. If applicable, the Inmagic Software Feature Request number follows each item listed.
Upgrades must run Setup Workstation: Upgrades are now required to run Setup Workstation after installing v13. This version was built with newer Microsoft tools, with the result that newer Microsoft DLLs are needed to support DB/TextWorks. These must reside on the workstations, and workstation setup will ensure their presence. If they are not located on the workstation when DB/TextWorks is started after the upgrade, an error message such as this will appear: The application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Query logging. The ability to log queries processed by a textbase, similar to the equivalent feature in WebPublisher PRO, is now possible with DB/TextWorks. Look for "query logging" in the help index. [6281]
Export secondary textbase fields. Fields from linked textbases can be exported. [5697]
E-mail authentication. Specify a login name and password to pass to a mail server. [5599]
Run-time version. DB/SearchWorks Run-time has been updated to v13.
New help format. DB/TextWorks online help is now using a WebHelp format. This format is compatible with the newer Microsoft operating systems, and can be accessed from the server hosting DB/TextWorks in a multi-user environment.
Larger recent-textbase list. The list of most recently opened textbases on the File menu can now contain up to 15 textbases. Use Tools> Options to change your settings. [6763]Taller field list when designing a textbase. More fields appear on the screen where fields and their properties are designed. [4510]
PowerPack Lite installation. PowerPack Lite now has its own Setup.EXE, instead of being bundled with the DB/TextWorks installation.
Windows 2000. DB/TextWorks no longer supports the MS Windows 2000 operating system.
The following issues are addressed by this version. The applicable Inmagic Software Problem Report (SPR) number follows each item listed.
Load textbase and fast import are more reliable on Windows 7. [6981]
RTF attachments in multiple e-mails sent from DB/TextWorks are formatted correctly. [6836]
Validation list changes that involve words significant in a query (such as "or") no longer produce an error when attempting to update affected records. [7054]
