DB/Text WebPublisher PRO is a server version of DB/TextWorks that
enables you to publish textbases on the Internet or an intranet, so Web users
can search them. WebPublisher PRO accepts queries from standard Web
browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, and accepts XML function calls.
The software returns search results in dynamically generated HTML and XML
reports, and allows for editing over the Web. WebPublisher PRO is used
together with DB/TextWorks, which is the "buildware" for creating searchable
textbases.
Each new and enhanced feature is discussed briefly here. For more information
on a feature, see the DB/TextWorks online help, unless otherwise noted. The
applicable Inmagic Software Feature Request number follows each item listed.
-
Windows Server 2008 Compatibility. Both WebPublisher PRO
and InmagicBrowse have been tested and, if needed, modified to work when
installed on Windows Server 2008. [5270]
-
XHTML Support. WebPublisher PRO
now emits XHTML rather than HTML in all cases except edit screens. It is also
possible to override the default DOCTYPE emitted, although this has no effect
on the content of the rest of the page. [5723, 5581]
-
Query Logging. Use this feature to maintain a log of all
queries performed on the Web. The log is maintained in comma-delimited format,
for ease of use with spreadsheets or DB/TextWorks. Information captured
includes the date, the times that the query processing started and ended, the
IP address from which the query originated, the query, the textbase, and the
number of records retrieved. [1499]
-
Hit Navigation. This feature provides hyperlinks to jump to
the next or previous highlighted word or phrase in a body of text. [5740]
-
Control over Validation Treatment. This feature permits
invalid terms entered on a Web edit screen to be accepted, with or without
updating the validation list. This feature, if used, applies to all textbases
and all fields editable by WebPublisher PRO, subject to the
validation constraints defined for each field in the textbase structure. [5984]
-
Original Field Names in InmagicBrowse. InmagicBrowse now shows
the original field names in the header and drop-down list, with accents and
spaces intact. [6008]
This version addressed the following issue in WebPublisher PRO.
-
An RSS feed containing extended characters now displays properly in
Internet Explorer 7.0. Previously, the proper encoding was not
retained in the output, causing IE 7 to display an error. [5040]
The following issues were discovered but not addressed in WebPublisher PRO.
-
Some pages generated by WebPublisher PRO look slightly different.
As a side-effect of implementing XHTML conformance, some pages have minor
changes in appearance. For example, page background colors are currently
ignored in Firefox, except on edit pages. [6193]
