Inmagic DB/Text for SQL (formerly known as Content Server) is an enterprise-wide scalable content management system. It combines the advantages of a robust and flexible database management environment with high-speed search and categorization, making finding relevant information fast, easy, and precise. Web publishing capabilities are built into DB/Text, offering a better way to publish, access, and maintain information on corporate intranets and the Internet.
This product has the following components:
DB/TextWorks for SQL. This is the Windows desktop component.
DB/Text WebPublisher PRO for SQL. This component gives your organization the ability to publish textbases on the Web. Anyone with a Web browser can point to an HTML page and submit a query. The results are returned dynamically, in forms that you design. You can also design an interface so that you and/or your end users can add, edit, and delete records in a textbase through the Web.
DB/Text for SQL Importer. This component is a service that enables you to load records into one or more textbases, while automatically and continually processing imports in the background. You can import records in Inmagic tagged, delimited ASCII, and XML formats. You can also import documents (for example, Microsoft Word documents).
DB/TextWorks also provides you with access to Inmagic.net™, which gives you the ability to connect to the Inmagic server from within a DB/TextWorks session to accomplish various tasks related to cataloging, indexing, and disseminating information throughout an organization.
This section lists new and enhanced features for each DB/Text component. For more information on a feature, see the online help. The Inmagic Software Feature Request number follows each specific item listed below.
Operating System support. Windows Vista has been deprecated (meaning support will be removed in the future).
Upgrades must run Setup Workstation: Upgrades, as well as new installs, are now required to run Setup Workstation after installing v13. This version was built with newer Microsoft tools, with the result that newer Microsoft DLLs are needed to support DB/TextWorks. These must reside on the workstations, and workstation setup will ensure their presence. If they are not located on the workstation when DB/TextWorks is started after the upgrade, an error message such as this will appear: The application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Query logging. DB/TextWorks can now log queries processed by a textbase. Query logging is enabled per textbase, by modifying the <textbase>.INI file. Look for "query logging" in the help index, or search the help for Query Log Files. [6281]
Export linked fields. Fields from linked textbases can now be exported. To export fields from a secondary textbase, choose File>Export, check Include Linked Fields in the Export Options dialog box, then select the desired fields. [5697]
E-mail authentication. Specify a login name and password to pass to a mail server. This is a new feature that can be configured in the INMAGIC.INI file. See the INMAGIC.INI topic in the online help. [5599]
Larger recent-textbase list. The list of most recently opened textbases on the File menu can now contain up to 15 textbases. Use Tools> Options to change your settings. [6763]
Taller field list when designing a textbase. More fields appear on the screen where fields and their properties are designed. [4510]
PDF text extraction improved. More reliable extraction of text from PDF files created from a variety of sources. [7335]
New help format. DB/TextWorks online help is now using a WebHelp format. This format is compatible with the newer Microsoft operating systems, and can be accessed from the server hosting DB/TextWorks in a multi-user environment. If the online Help says version 12, it is likely that your INMAGIC.INI file contains the setting HtmlHelp=1. Change this to HtmlHelp=0, then restart DB/TextWorks. Version 13 help should then be available.
Documentation changes. Requirements have been moved from the Installation and Upgrade Instructions into the Support Matrix for Inmagic DB/Text for SQL v13, which is available via the Product Documentation link on the Customer Extranet page. Please review that document before installing or upgrading DB/Text for SQL. The Installation and Upgrade Instructions list configuration prerequisites for Microsoft SQL Server and Inmagic DB/Text for SQL.
Starting and Stopping the Service. Starting or stopping the Importer service is now performed using the standard method for all Windows Services, which is to use the Windows Control Panel. The Start and Stop buttons have been removed from the Importer configuration dialog box.
Default location of INI and LOG files. The default location of the INI and LOG files has been changed, to support the newer Operating Systems. The Importer initialization file (ICSISRV.INI) is saved in the location specified at installation time (and recorded in the [InmServices] section of the InmServices.INI file). The Importer.LOG file is saved in the same location by default.
PDF text extraction improved. More reliable extraction of text from PDF files created from a variety of sources.
Documentation and Help. A new document, the Inmagic DB/Text for SQL Textbase Importer Service v13 User's Guide, is available via the Product Documentation link on the Customer Extranet page. Online help is no longer provided for the Importer.
Client browser support. New client Web browsers are supported. Please see the Support Matrix for Inmagic DB/Text for SQL v13, which is available via the Product Documentation link on the Customer Extranet page.
Editing records. It is now possible to edit records in non-IE browsers over the Web. Please see the Support Matrix for details.
InmagicBrowse UI changes. InmagicBrowse includes a new find-as-you-type feature. It also hides controls that offer no opportunity to take action.
The following issues are addressed by this version. If applicable, the Inmagic Software Problem Report (SPR) number follows each item listed.
Load textbase and fast import are more reliable on Windows 7. [6981]
RTF attachments in multiple e-mails sent from DB/TextWorks are formatted correctly. [6836]
Validation list changes that involve words significant in a query (such as "or") no longer produce an error when attempting to update affected records. [7054]
The ability to send e-mail with HTML in the message body, added in v12, has now also been added to the scripting SendMailDescriptor object. Search the help for SendMailDescriptor. [7160]
Fixed a problem with setting Tab order in a form with more than 254 boxes. [SPR 7285]
There are no known issues at this time.
